Summer Auction Highlights

Whisky Distillery Cask Auction

The Summer Auction ended on Thursday, 29 July and we thought we would share some highlights...

Echoing our previous auctions the Summer one was yet another success...!

The most popular cask by a landslide was the 2017 Whitlaw Hogshead, which saw a huge amount of eager bidders. Ultimately it did incredibly well and sold for £4,100, a whopping £1,100 above the £3,000 reserve.

Whitlaw is the trade term for Highland Park (with no naming rights), and it's an absolutely delicious liquid!

The winning bidder has grasped the rare opportunity to own a cask from a top-tier distillery whose popularity has just exploded in the last 30 years.

The peat in the Orkneys is very different from the mainland and is composed of moss and heather which produces more of a light smoke interwoven with more aromatic and fragrant notes. The distillery style is a sweet, honeyed, spicy malt that can be quite fruity with a long slightly smoky finish.

From an investment perspective, this four-year cask leaves you with a lot of opportunities. We would recommend holding it for at least six years until the first milestone age of 10 years but it would also be a great medium to long-term investment to wait until the cask was 12, 15, 18, 21, or even 25 years old.

The next auction will go live on Monday, October 18th and we are already sourcing casks for it. So, if you have one you'd like to auction or know a friend or family member who might, don't hesitate to get in touch with us or fill out the cask valuation form.
